Sarawak Islamic Heritage Museum
Sarawak Islamic Heritage Museum
- The building, originally known as Madrasah Melayu Sarawak, was established in 1930 on P. Ramlee Road. It served as an educational institution dedicated to training teachers in advanced Malay education.
- In 1992, the building underwent a significant transformation and was renamed the Sarawak Islamic Heritage Museum. This transition was marked by an official ceremony presided over by Yang Amat Berhormat Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr.) Haji Abdul Taib Mahmud.
- Since its conversion into a museum, the Sarawak Islamic Heritage Museum has been divided into seven galleries, each offering unique insights into various aspects of Islamic heritage. These galleries include The Coming of Islam to the Malay Archipelago Gallery, The Islamic Architecture Gallery, Science Technology Economy and Literature Gallery, Music and Costumes Gallery, Weaponry Gallery, Decorative Arts and Domestic Utensils Gallery, and Al-Quran Corner Gallery. These exhibits provide visitors with a comprehensive understanding of Islamic culture, history, and traditions in the region.
