THE HUJRA MIR MAHDI
How to get here:
The hujra is located not far from the ‘walled city of Lahore’ which lies in the north of the Lahore. Its about 6kms east of the ‘walled city’ in the district of Kot Khawaja Saeed. One would take Shadbagh road and travel about 20 minutes to get to the district. The hujra is located nearby the Prince Perwez Tomb.

Noted for being the oldest monument in all of Pakistan, the Hujrah Mir Mahdi in Northern Lahore has withstood the tests of time in addition to the dust and broil of its surroundings.

In the 15th century, the ruling Muslim dynasty was known as the Delhi Sultanate. Sultan Mubarak Shah was the ruler of Lahore and sought to re-inhabit it after it had been ransacked and plundered by the forces of Timur two decades earlier. He invited traders and craftsmen back to the city and built this monument as a spot to perform Eid prayers or Janazah (funeral) prayers to facilitate and captivate people around it.

It was constructed in 1422CE and was named after a saint whom the Sultan had great admiration for and whom he himself was a disciple of. It has the kalimah inscribed on it and is painted beautifully.
