Construction of this Musjid in the quiet little town of Uitenhage in the Eastern Cape began in 1845 after having acquired the land as a donation from the government five years earlier. It is believed that the government donated the land in recognition of the services of the Muslims for battles fought on behalf of the government.

This Musjid became the first Musjid in the British colony to perform Jumuah Salaah and Muslims from Port Elizabeth (35km’s away) would make their way there by ox-wagon leaving a day before to be on time.
