The town of Gabes is home to the gravesite of the illustrious companion of Muhammad Sallallaahu ‘Alayhi wa Sallam, Bishr ibn Munthir al-Awsi al-Ansāri RA better known as Abu Lubābah RA.

Bishr RA was appointed by Muhammad Sallallaahu ‘Alayhi wa Sallam as his deputy over Medina when the others left for the Battle of Badr.

As a means of repentance later on in his life, he vowed to join the Muslim expeditions wherever they were posted. He joined them in Africa and passed away here in 662 C.E.
