HERITAGE SITE | NEGASH, ETHIOPIA

• The simple village of Negash is home to the burial site of King Najashi RA and other Sahabah who passed away during the hijrah.
• The quaint village still takes pride in its traditional stone built homes and is still mainly a farming community.
• The musjid compound surrounding the grave sites has been very recently renovated by the Turkish government and the beautiful musjid is accompanied by a courtyard and conference hall.
• The pathway leading to the grave of King Najashi RA and the Sahabah RA has been paved and is lined by a pretty garden with a shaded picnic area. The 15 Sahabah RA who are said to have passed away in this area are buried here and their names have been inscribed on marble tablets that line this pathway.

      Umme Harmalah bint Abdul Aswad RA
      Aisha bint Harith RA
      Safwan ibn Ma’mar RA

      Al Muttalib ibn Azhar RA
• The main green-domed room houses the grave of King Najashi RA. He passed away in 9AH shortly after the Tabuk Expedition. The Prophet SAW announced his passing and performed Janaazah Salaah in his absence.
• According to the narrations in Bukhari and Muslim , when King Najashi RA passed away, the Prophet SAW said, “Indeed your brother has passed away in the land of Abyssinia. ”
• Not far off lies the original village with its stone musjid.
