  • The oldest Musjid in the province of Gujarat is the Jama Musjid of Bharuch which was completed in the early 14th century CE. Located at the base of Bharuch Fort, it was constructed from the remains of the Jain Temple which was located on that site. After conquering the region, Sultan Muhammad Begda converted the temple into a Musjid.

  • This Musjid, unlike others in the region, has an enclosed courtyard and the stone rooftop is supported by 48 beautifully-carved stone pillars. The roof itself has three large domes and ten smaller ones.

  • The long qiblah (front) wall consists of three mihrabs (niches) and one sand-stone mimbar (pulpit).
