THE GRAVE OF UBADAH BIN SAMIT RA
- Ubadah RA was born in Madinah before Prophethood. He was one of the first twelve Madinites who embraced Islam after meeting Rasulullah ﷺ in the valley of `Aqabah. He thereafter participated in every battle with the Prophet ﷺ and also had the honour of being one of the scribes who were tasked with the writing of revelation.
- He was a senior Companion who became a commander in the armies of Abu Bakr and Umar RA. He was one of the main field commanders during the Muslim conquest of Egypt and served in Egypt as a corps commander from 640 to 642.
- He is described as a handsome, black man with a fearless, unwavering temperament.
- Being one of the leading experts of the Quran, Ubadah RA was appointed as the first Islamic judge (qadi) of Jerusalem.
- He passed away in 655CE at the age of 72 and is buried outside the foot of the Eastern wall of the Al-Aqsa compound.
