The Vienna Islamic Centre is the largest Musjid in Austria, located in Vienna’s 21st district, Floridsdorf. In 1969, the Islamic Community in Vienna purchased an 8,300 square meter plot from the city with the intention of building a Musjid. However, financial constraints delayed the project’s commencement. In 1975, Saudi King Faisal bin Abdulaziz al Saud pledged to finance the construction, enabling the project to move forward. Construction began on July 1, 1977, under the supervision of general contractor Richard Lugner, and the centre was officially inaugurated on November 20, 1979, by Austrian President Rudolf Kirchschläger.

The Vienna Islamic Centre features a prominent minaret standing at 32 meters and a dome with a diameter of 20 meters. The architectural design reflects traditional Islamic elements, harmoniously integrated into the Viennese cityscape. The centre not only serves as a place of worship but also provides facilities for the study and practice of Islamic culture, including educational programs and community events.

As the primary Islamic institution in Austria, the Vienna Islamic Centre plays a crucial role in promoting understanding and dialogue between the Muslim community and the broader Austrian society.
