Melbourne Grand Mosque

Melbourne Grand Mosque
  • The Melbourne Grand Mosque, which opened in 2022, was a decade-long project funded by the Werribee Islamic Centre and Muslim communities in Victoria and beyond. What began as a community dream over ten years ago has now materialized into Melbourne’s newest Musjid, thanks to extensive fundraising, planning, and construction efforts.
  • The Melbourne Grand Mosque aims to serve the social needs of the community in Wyndham and the surrounding areas. It has been developed to accommodate the significant demographic growth in Wyndham, a rapidly developing area in Melbourne’s west. New suburbs in Wyndham have emerged from paddocks, establishing their distinct identities in less than a decade. The Musjid is part of the larger Werribee Islamic Centre, which also includes the WIC Community Centre, Food and Kitchen Services, Janaza Services, a library and classrooms, Islamic counselling services, an early childhood service centre, a sports centre, and parking facilities.
  • Architecturally, the Musjid features a sober design with pointed arches on the facades. Islamic calligraphy patterns are intricately cut through metal to decorate various interior spaces. The repeated arches of varying shapes on the facade give the Musjid a unique architectural character, and the facade is constructed using prefabricated concrete panels.
