KHAYBAR

KHAYBAR
  • Khaybar is an oasis approximately 150km north of Madinah. It is divided into two main areas with a combined total of eight fortresses. It is surrounded by plantations as well as black volcanic rock in some areas.
  • For thousands of years Khaybar has attracted travellers and visitors due to its many water sources, both above and underground and its key location near an old trade route. Up to this day, many of its almost impregnable fortresses remain standing and has been preserved throughout the centuries for all to see.
  • Khaybar is famous for the expedition undertaken by the Prophet ﷺ in the year 7AH. At the time, Jewish tribes inhabited Khaybar and, looking at the challenging terrain, sturdy fortresses and its unique access to food and water, it’s no surprise that this city was one of the most difficult to infiltrate while easily providing safety and comfort to its residents. The Prophet ﷺ besieged the city, and after a number of days and much struggle, the Muslims gained victory. Following the conquest of Khaybar, the Jews were allowed to continue living there to cultivate and harvest the abundance of dates grown, after which half of it would be sent to Madinah as per the agreement concluded between the Prophet ﷺ and the local tribes.
