How to get here:
It is situated 140km south of Damascus and is a 2 hours’ drive by car on the M5 highway. Busses also service this route but do take longer.

The Nur al-Din Madrassah is the final resting place of the famous ruler of Nur al-Din Zangi. He ruled over most of Syria, Western Iraq and Southern Turkey as part of the Seljuq Empire in the 12th century.

He is known principally for his war against the Crusader presence in the region where numerous wars were fought between them.

Aside from his political and military achievements, Nur al-Din is also remembered for overseeing the construction of numerous Musjids, hospitals, educational institutions and caravanserais. He would hold court several times per week to listen to the concerns of his subjects, and is remembered as a modest and pious leader who emphasized justice.
