MALIKIYYA MADRASSAH

Located to the north of the Haram, between the Is’ardiyya and the Farisiyya madrassahs, this madrassah was built in 1340 by al-Malik al-Jukandar for his wife, Malak bint al-Sayfi Qaltaqtum al-Nasiri. She endowed it as a waqf in 1344, and was buried there upon her death.

The two-story madrasa is built entirely above the level of the Haram portico, with an elaborately decorated entrance portal facing west.

Like many other madrassahs, this madrassah was also subsequently used for residential purposes.
