THE MOUNTAIN OF LIGHT (JABAL AL-NUR)

The Mountain of Light is a mountain which lies just outside Makkah about 3km from the Ka’bah itself. Close to the summit of the mountain lies a narrow cave that faces the Ka’bah directly. This cave is known as the Cave of Hira’.
It was in this tiny cave, barely more than a niche on the side of of the mountain, that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ spent much of his time in seclusion during his early adult years. It was here that the Archangel Jibril AS appeared before him and he received the first revelation from Allah which marked the beginning of Prophethood.
The cave measures about 5meters long and a little over 1.5 meters wide.
