  • The Valley is significant due to it containing the graves of some of the greatest personalities to have walked the earth, amongst them are:
  • Abu Ubaydah Ibn Al Jarrah RA was known as ‘The Trustee of this nation’ due to his exemplary character and trustworthiness. Abu Ubaydah RA was one of the earliest Muslims having accepted Islam just a day after Abu Bakr RA. He is also one of the ten Sahabah RA who were given the glad tidings of Paradise during their lifetime.
  • He participated in all campaigns with the Messenger ﷺ and protected him with all his strength.  When the Messenger ﷺ was injured during the Battle of Uhud and metal from his shield had penetrated his cheeks, it was Abu Ubaydah RA who removed them with his teeth breaking them in the process.
  • Many years later, the command of the armies that were sent out to the Levant was shared between him and Khalid ibn Walid RA. He was an exemplary military commander, sincere advisor and a beaming light in Islamic history for his wisdom, justice, soft nature and good character.
  • Abu Ubaydah RA passed away in 638CE at the age of 58, during the plague of Amwas. A musjid was built at the site of his grave and houses his tomb in an adjacent room.
