THE LIBRARY OF SHE EB BANU HASHIM – THE BIRTH-PLACE OF THE PROPHET ﷺ

Situated towards the northwest of Musjid Al Haram’s boundaries, is the Library of She’eb Banu Hashim.
This spot is believed to be the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammed ﷺ.
When al-Khayzuran RA, the mother of the Abbasid caliph Harun al-Rashid, performed the Haj pilgrimage one year, she purchased the property. She converted it into a Musjid where people would pray and visit. The home continued to serve as a small Musjid for many centuries, and was preserved, maintained, and renovated by various caliphs throughout the centuries.
In 1953 the Musjid was converted into a library and has remained so since then.
