THE LIBRARY OF SHE EB BANU HASHIM – THE BIRTH-PLACE OF THE PROPHET ﷺ
- Situated towards the northwest of Musjid Al Haram’s boundaries, is the Library of She’eb Banu Hashim.
- This spot is believed to be the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammed ﷺ.
- When al-Khayzuran RA, the mother of the Abbasid caliph Harun al-Rashid, performed the Haj pilgrimage one year, she purchased the property. She converted it into a Musjid where people would pray and visit. The home continued to serve as a small Musjid for many centuries, and was preserved, maintained, and renovated by various caliphs throughout the centuries.
- In 1953 the Musjid was converted into a library and has remained so since then.
